Wednesday: Mid Week Ramblings—Abby and the Big Girl Bed

April 30th, 2008 in Wednesday: Mid Week Ramblings

We just moved into our new home and I thought it would be a good time to have my 2 yr 2 month old girl start sleeping in her “big girl bed”

This has brought on a new level of tizzy fits I didn’t even know was possible, hitting and lying.

I help her lie down and while she is crying she says, “Ok bye Mom, I’m going to sleep”  while she is crawling out. I guess she hasn’t mastered the art of fibbing yet.

She sits upright in her bed and just bawls, she hits when I try to lie her back down, “No Way Mom! NO WAY!” Now normally hitting would have her go straight to her time out chair for 2 minutes but what do you do when they hit but are supposed to be going to sleep? Yank them out to go to time out chair then defeating the purpose of getting them to lie down in their bed?

And of course, I had to throw in another one for her, no more sippy cup since you are in the big girl bed. I know, the sippy cup of milk should have gone a long time ago.

What mess have I got myself into?

I can’t find the hardware to her old crib and her little sister is in the other one….I think it will just be tough it out time.

Any suggestions?

I already do a routine (special drink with special straw before bed, read 3 books, sing a song and say a prayer—that she will just FALL ASLEEP!)

And when she does get out of her bed I calmly walk in, say nothing and just lie her back down.

I think it is just time, time time time, but boy is it going to feel like forever.
