Statue of Motherhood in Granada, Nicaragua
February 1st, 2013 in Our Travels Worldwide
In Granada in the center of town is a very busy plaza and not really with tourists. The locals seem to love hanging out there. To sit and rest, watch the sun, people watch, be with their family, grab a bite to eat, read, mosey around. In this plaza I happened upon a statue.
Inscribed with:
“a la madre todo abnegacion y amor”
which roughly means… Mother-all devotion and love.
Abnegation itself can mean “renunciation of your own interests in favor of the interests of others.” Which is part of motherhood, isn’t it? More of a fine line in motherhood I should say, trying to balance that.
Isn’t that beautiful? I walked past with my four girls and started to tear up. I didn’t think I could love Granada any more but this just put the icing on the cake.
