Smile, Oprah Said
I watched Oprah back in the day. Did you? Then I had kids…do you watch TV anymore? I don’t. And to be able to sit down at 4pm during the day to watch an hour show? Really…how does that happen with anyone? Isn’t that a crazy time with you too? Well back in the day when I was a nanny, the mom of the kids and I would go downstairs to let the kiddos play and watch Oprah whenever we had a tough day.
Best parenting advice ever (and I actually really dislike ANY advice):
Smile when your kids walk into the room.
I am not saying I beam every time they walk into the room, but I try. And when they wake up first thing in the morning or from their nap, this is what I look like. They could not feel any more special. I bang open the door, sing a song, attack them with kisses or do a little jig.
Smile more at your kids.
They aren’t that bad ![]()

I love this advice! I’m going to make an effort to do just that when my kids walk into a room… even if Oprah said it. (Not a big fan of hers, sorry to say!)
BTW, super cute sweater. Can I borrow it?
I agree with Emily…cute sweater!
BUT this has got to be the BEST picture of you! Hawtie!! =)
This is great advice, and something that I really try to do. Savannah really responds to it, and I find that we start our day out better if I have a smile on my face…setting the example!
I used to watch Oprah, back in high school. It was a short-lived hobby. These days my tv isn’t even hooked up for anything but the dvd/vcr. No tv watching going on here.
As for the advice, I think its a great idea. I’ve never been aware of what I do when my kids enter the room/I enter the room the kids are in. Definitely something I want to work on. Thanks for sharing.
Does this work for teenage boys? I think he would fall over or roll over and hide under his covers! But it is great advice. Love it!
that is good advice. I think I used to know about a show called Oprah lol
Great advice and even better sweater! I LOVE it!
GREAT ADVICE! I think too often our mouths say one thing and our facial expressions say another. Showing joy on your face is a fabulous way to send love to our little ones.
Love love love this advice! Another one — wake them up with a kiss and a hug. Much better than my mom yelling “Rise and Shine” and snapping the shades up so they spin around and around and sunlight glares down at you!
Very true
I LOVE that wrap!
