Friday:Play!—Side Walk Chalk Fun

April 4th, 2008 in Friday: Play!

I am 25 years old and I still love sidewalk chalk as much as I did when I was 5.

When I was a nanny the kids and I did the best thing with our side walk chalk. I would draw them a bike trail, a long one, it took a good hour to make. We would make a line you had to stay on, sometimes it would be squiggly or straight. We would draw stop signs, a finish line, monsters in the way. By then all the neighbor kids would be over and everyone would be on their bikes. I would time them with a stopwatch as they ran the course. Other than the nature scavenger hunt this had to be the funnest thing to them.

My daughter is probably to young for that but she loves when I trace her. Then we draw in her eyes, clothes, hair. She likes to draw the ocean with waves, fish, whales, starfish. The night sky is her favorite, we draw the moon and stars.

It is the perfect activity for spring. You could teach your child how to play hopscotch or you could even have a family drawing contest with side walk chalk for your weekly family activity!

And I even found someone who made side walk chalk. If any of you are brave enough to try this one, let me know how it turns out!
