Shirley J & My Homemade Pizza

April 17th, 2010 in Giveaways, cooking, recipes

We make our “homemade” pizzas a couple of times a year.  Boy, are they YUMMY! Sometimes we cook them on the grill and sometimes we cook them inside in the oven. Either way… boy, are they perfect.

I was recently sent part of the Shirley J line and wanted to see if their products would work well in some of our favorite recipes. Let me show you what we did…

Dough:

Buy it from your favorite pizza place nearby. Some day I will learn the trick for perfect homemade pizza dough!

Sauces:

This is where the Shirley J products come in big time! The Universal Sauce, BBQ Seasoning, and Pizza & Pasta Seasoning.

Toppings:

#1 Alfredo Pizza-Top with mozzarella cheese, fontina cheese, crisped prosciutto. Season top with parmesan cheese, olive oil, salt and pepper

#2 BBQ Chicken Pizza-Top with mozzarella cheese and smoked gouda cheese slices. Top with sauteed chicken and sliced red onion. Then season with parmesan cheese, olive oil, salt and pepper.

#3 Sausage Red Sauce Pizza-Top with mozzarella and cheddar cheese. Then top with cooked sausage. Season with parmesan cheese, salt, pepper and olive oil.

Bake at 400 for about 6 minutes on the top rack.  Then switch and do another 6 minutes. And enjoy!

So how did the Shirley J Products work in one of our favorite recipes? Fantastically! I love the idea of having the BBQ seasoning in the pantry instead of the 4-6 bottles in my fridge that I’m not even sure how long they have been in there! Plus, the taste is fantastic and you can use it for so many things and dress it up for different flavors. The Universal Sauce worked well in this recipe.  I am still not sold on the product when used as a main ingredient, but as the sauce on this pizza it worked great! I also LOVE the Pizza & Pasta Seasoning on the pizza, in a dressing for a salad or in a pasta dish. I love that stuff.  You can browse their products for yourself right here.
