Raising Kids on REAL Food: Hummus

Yes, hummus.  First off, let me say there are so many BAD brands of hummus that just taste nasty. I actually think it was the fourth time I tried hummus that I finally ended up liking it.  This recipe tastes very, very good so if you have had hummus and not loved it in the past, give it another try with this recipe.

Hummus is great because it is a snack that keeps you full for quite a while.  It is jam packed with lots of essential vitamins and also contains about 20 essential amino acids.  Kids love to DIP stuff so this is perfect for them as well.

Vanessa’s Quick & Easy Hummus

Ingredients:

2 cans of garbanzo beans

1/2 cup of Tahini

Juice of one lemon

2 tsp of minced garlic

Olive Oil

Salt (I use Gray Salt)

Directions:

1. Blend the beans, tahini, lemon juice, salt and garlic until blended well.

2. Here is my tip.  Put it on a casserole pan and drizzle with olive oil.

3. Then bake it for 10 minutes at 350 in the oven. I LOVE hummus warm.  It makes it even better.

I use it as a side with a curry dish for dinner or smother it in whole grain veggie pitas. Man, do we love this stuff!
