Playa Hermosa on Saturday Afternoons

February 17th, 2013 in Our Travels Worldwide

I should tell you all that most of my days are a lot like back at home. Changing diapers, sleepless nights, messes, playing with the girls, cleaning bathrooms, watching too many episodes of Yo Gabba Gabba. Some days I forget I live in Costa Rica! Just because a lot of my life is still the same–a lot of mom business. Which I love, sometimes want to hide from, and wipe me out all at the same time. But a lot of days life is drastically different, and tonight was a good example of that.

Sometimes I worry because I feel as if I have taken a bite of the forbidden fruit. The longer I am here the less I want to ever leave. I just got done bathing all the kids and putting them to bed. Tonight we had such a beautiful night. We jumped in our car, drove a minute or two to the beach, and watched the weekly surfing contest. Saturdays an hour before dusk they hold local surfing competitions. The radio DJ on the beach yells over and over, “I loooove Costa Rica, I love you!” We watched in awe the local guys, top ranked surfer in the country, even visitors surf. Let our kids cover their bodies in the sand, run in and out of the tips of the ocean. Just relax, Pura Vida style.

There is this restaurant in our little town right on the beach. Where the owner loves to see the girls. He noticed Reagan got teeth and so he asked me if she was biting too hard. Oh how I love that most don’t have a weird taboo with breastfeeding out here. When Abby helped him move a plate he told her she was so kind. When Cameron and I came alone another night to have book club he send over a special dish to be nice. We watch the waves, sunset, surfing, and sunset. When it starts to get dark they turn on the “fun” lights. Down on the sand it looks like red and green fireflies dancing everywhere. So we let the girls go down and they chase the lights in the sand.

Man life is good out here you guys. Really good.

Pura Vida.
