Picnic Party in the Woods

July 10th, 2009 in party time

Remember the party wreath I posted about yesterday? Well here it is in use! It was super windy last night but I still think it pulled together our picnic party in the woods perfectly. Now I can use it for birthdays and other special occasions, which will save me money and cut back on waste. Do some of these ideas look familiar? They are from or based on an article in a popular parenting magazine (which I can’t find; if you find a link send it my way).

Menu

Artisan rolls with Spanish and Italian cheeses and meats wrapped in fabric squares

We cut back on using paper products by wrapping our sandwiches in a fabric squares, handkerchiefs or cloth napkins. We then used them for cleanup; they can be quickly washed and reused!

Raspberry Lemonade

I used the canning jars that would normally have salsa inside. (The salsa garden did NOT turn out this year.) It is nice to have a lid so it doesn’t leak and once again you don’t waste any paper products!

I finished up our basket with a bit of basil olive oil, balsamic vinegar and a couple pieces of fruit. We brought along two flower cupcakes from the bakery for a surprise.

Activities

~ I brought along our fairy wish bowl and pink fairy dust for them to sprinkle and make a wish. VoilĂ ! Two magic flower cupcakes appeared!

~ Then, as princess fairies do, we ended the night by the water feeding our friends the ducks.

Sorry to hear about the salsa garden. At least the Mason Jars were handy for the yummy drinks!

What fun! And what a good idea to put the raspberry lemonade in canning jars! I’ll have to remember that.
