Letter of the Day: Letter J

July 24th, 2008 in Letter of the Day, Uncategorized

I try to incorporate reading, music, art, gratitude, exercise, nature, touch, and a family activity into teaching the assigned letter. We actually spend two days on one letter, so we have enough time for all the fun activities and all the regular things that goes on in our day to day life. Then after a couple letters we have a day where we play a treasure hunt all with clues reviews the letters we have done.

Here are some ideas for Letter J (we skipped H because I can’t find the sound box book!)

Reading:
We of course read our Sound Box J Book and for the other books I had a hard time this week. Lots of the books we read were about Jesus and the only other one I could find was 10 Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed. Please leave a comment if you can think of some others.

Music: We jumped around the house listening to Beethoven, our dogs enjoyed watching us very much 🙂 We also found out jingle bells from Christmas, got them out of the box and skipped around the house jingling them!

Art: We made our art collage for Letter J and also made a jellyfish!

Gratitude:Our Gratitude Alphabet is coming along, Abby drew a picture of Jesus and her Uncle JB.

Touch: We bent quite a few pipe cleaners into the J shape, it is an easy enough letter to do that with pipe cleaners.

Exercise: OK this was hilarious, my daughter has the hardest time doing jumping-jacks, I tried to capture it not sure if you can tell, all she could do is this:

Family Activity:Each of us made a jellyfish together, we cut out a stronger piece of paper for the top and just poked pipe-cleaners through and bent them back so they would not poke anyone.
