Letter of the Day—F

July 11th, 2008 in Letter of the Day

I try to incorporate reading, music, art, gratitude, exercise, nature, touch, and a family activity into teaching the assigned letter.  We actually spend two days on one letter, so we have enough time for all the fun activities and all the regular things that goes on in our day to day life. Then after a couple letters we have a day where we play a treasure hunt all with clues reviews the letters we have done.

Here are some ideas for Letter F

(By the way doing letter B and D together in a week, totally not very smart, I am sure you all would know better than me)

Reading: We of course read our sound box book going along with our letter.

My ''f'' Sound Box : Jane Belk Moncure : ISBN 9781567667721

Most of our F books are about fish but we do have a few others about freckles, feelings, friends here is what we have on our bookshelf:

Music: We found the best new resource for children’s songs that go along with our letter of the day. We sang our favorite song from the Wee Sing Class we go to about Fire Trucks! Abby picks this song first every time we go, so she was very excited that it started with the Letter F!

Hurry, Hurry, Drive the Fire Truck
Hurry, hurry, drive the fire truck
(Hands on steering wheel)
Hurry, hurry, drive the fire truck
Hurry, hurry, drive the fire truck
Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding!
(Ring bell)
Hurry, hurry, turn the corner
(Lean to the right)
Hurry, hurry, turn the corner
(Lean to the left)
Hurry, hurry, turn the corner
(Lean to the right and left)
Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding!
(Ring bell)
Hurry, hurry, climb the ladder
(Pretend to climb ladder)
Hurry, hurry, climb the ladder
Hurry, hurry, climb the ladder
Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding!
(Ring bell)
Hurry, hurry, squirt the water
(Pretend to spray hose)
Hurry, hurry, squirt the water
Hurry, hurry, squirt the water
Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding!
(Ring bell)
Slowly, slowly, back to the station
(Lean slowly to the left and right)
Slowly, slowly, back to the station
Slowly, slowly, back to the station
Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding!
(Ring bell)
Art: Our picture and art college of the letter F we made out of leaves, feathers, and flowers. We also made some sand art pictures of fish.

Gratitude:We drew a picture of the incident yesterday that involved myself, Abby, Cameron, a crew of firefighters and their fire truck. Yesterday at Peterson’s my 9 month old was screaming uncontrollably (she is getting her 11th and 12th teeth and they are killing her), Abby was running around the store like a crazy lady (because I thought I could run in very fast without attaching them to a cart and it would be fine), and I was dropping my food everywhere. So the fire crew that had came in to get lunch helped with get all my stuff into my car and then showed Abby their fire truck. I was grateful for nice fire fighter men who help ladies who cannot control their children 🙂Exercise: We decided to set up a running course to see who could run the FASTEST!Nature: We took our wagon over to our FIELD of FLOWERS to pick some.

Touch:I had Abby break off some petals from the different flowers, and use different leaves to form the shape of the Letter F over and over.

Family Activity:I am going to count the fire fighter crew helping me out of the store as our family activity 🙂 Although we did go pretend fishing in the backyard over our deck with our Barbie fishing poles 🙂
