Honey Bunny Turns 8

February 2nd, 2011 in About Me, Parties, party time

We have never done a birthday for a dog. But one night I was telling Cameron that Honey is getting old, so we decided she should have a party. You know? I think I am going to throw dog parties for my dogs when they are getting really old. The pictures will be fun to look back on and our dogs are extremely close to us in this house.

Honey is our mixed dog we got right after we were married. We think she was born sometime in January. We know when Rocco was born because we have his paperwork from the Czech Republic but it probably will be two more years until he gets a birthday party.

The party was simple. We made her a dog cake and invited some people who we know love Honey Bunny almost as much as us. But…since we both come from long lines of “not-like-dogs-so-much” in our families…we could only think of two people. My sister Becca and niece Lydibug. We made Honey a dog cake, sang to her and then we decorated dog cookies in her honor.

Recipe for a Dog Safe and Only for Dogs to Eat Cake:

Beef Beggin Strips Cake

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

  • 1/2 cup soft butter

  • 1/2 cup corn oil

  • 2 jars strained beef baby food

  • 4 eggs

  • 4-8 Beggin’ Strips

  • Cream Cheese

Preheat oven to 325°. Grease and flour a bread loaf pan.

Cream butter until smooth. Add corn oil, baby food, and eggs. Mix until smooth.

Mix dry ingredients into beef mixture until batter is smooth. Crumble Beggin’ Strips and fold into batter.

Pour batter into loaf pan. Bake 1 hour and cool on wire rack 15 minutes.

Frost with whipped up cream cheese. Crumble Beggin’ Strips on top.

Why yes, I almost got really sick while making this…next year I want to try a banana and peanut butter version! I didn’t let her eat too much, just a slice so her belly wouldn’t get sick. More than that probably would have made her sick. Any changes in a dog’s diet can result in…well, in them getting sick.
