Healthy Living for the Mama in the House

January 30th, 2010 in About Me

I have been going to a personal trainer for the past few months and have mentioned it here or there on my blog, twitter and facebook.  I always get messaged asking me to BLOG about it.

I didn’t want to tie it to “New Year’s Resolutions” because, let’s be honest here…this mama doesn’t keep New Year’s Resolutions.  I shouldn’t even be allowed to set them.

I haven’t taken good care of myself.  I have had and do have health problems.  After the tests are all done, I am always told I have abnormal labs but they don’t know why. What they do know and preach to me is LIVE HEALTHY. So off I go “Living Healthy” for…oh 2 weeks max and find myself falling back into the same old.

I take great care of my girls, making sure they eat the best they can and are very active. I make sure they get enough sleep and love.  But I fall short with myself, and they are starting to notice at just 2 and 3 years old.

I always need to lose weight.  I was a skinny little thing until I turned 13 and you-know-what came.  Then you-know-who plumped up a bit. Unfortunately I used diet pills and extreme dieting which led to eating disorders where I would lose 20 lbs and then plump back up after a few months. I knew I needed to start doing it RIGHT.  You know, the real way…good ol’ Exercise and Nutrition.

Enter Laura Butters

Laura is a personal trainer here in South Jordan, Utah who I knew I could feel comfortable around because of her story.  She lost 162 pounds a couple of years ago and learned to love exercise and nutrition so much that she went to school for it. And now she is THE “Transformation Trainer.”  She is amazing (and a mother of five!) and helps me.

How SO, You Ask?

#1 Nutrition—I know how to cook good for my family (see below). I really do. And I love eating this way. Here is the problem.  I won’t eat until 2 pm, then I eat a lot of sweets, eat a healthy dinner and eat sweets again at 9 pm. Not anymore.  I eat every 3 hours and I eat the things Laura tells me to, which I love already. And I eat sweets Saturday nightbecause I love my sweets. Laura teaches me WHY (I love learning the WHYS) I eat what I eat, and you know what? I FEEL GOOD. I don’t feel hungry, I don’t feel blah-ish and I feel very satisfied.

Ha, caught me! The bottom right hand corner is NOT healthy ;)
Its our "Special Saturday Breakfast"
(all things in moderation, Laura says.)

#2 Weight Lifting–Who in the world knew that I could learn to LOVE working out- weight lifting, that is. I work with Laura four mornings a week for an hour and it feels good. I feel good when I am sore and I am feeling my body become stronger in it’s core.  I am liking this feeling.

#3 Cardio–This is my goal for this month:I HAVE to fit this in. Laura helps me by doing some cardio in our routines but I need to fit it in. For me.

Wish me luck.  I am trying! I am trying!

Thank You Laura.  I am so glad I found you.  This mama is taking better care of herself.

You always seem to have the uber healthy recipes. I need to get some flax so I can start trying them!

So happy for you, Vanessa! I am inspired by your commitment to your health.

    Quick Questions:
    (1) How much does it cost to hire a personal trainer?
    (2) Do you meet with her in your home, at a gym, at a park, or…?
    (3) Who watches your girls while you workout?

    I’d love to hear more!
