The best parenting advice I ever received was from a Dad on Oprah. It was almost 5 years ago that I heard it.

It was when Oprah’s DVD Boxed Set came out…The Best of Oprah, I think. A wife walked in our her husband (a very rugged, mans man, cowboy guy) watching Oprah, crying. She wrote in and they appeared on the show. He said that what got him was something he heard one of the guests say.

Always smile everytime your child walks into the room.

He recalled how he would be grumpy/tired/etc. when picking his kids up from school, getting them out of bed, etc. He realized to his children he always looked bothered or frustrated when he would see them.

He made a commitment to smile every time he saw his children for the first time in the morning, when they walked into the room, when he picked them up from school.

I know it sounds so simple, but I loved the advice and try to implement it every day.
