Easter Idea by My Mom

March 26th, 2010 in Life

I talked my Mom into blogging awhile ago basically so when I have a bad week I can ask her to guest post for me. Ok that’s just ONE of the reasons but thank you Mom for this wonderful Easter Idea. She blogs over at:

Easter Jar

I am starting a new Easter tradition this year.  I have created an “Easter Jar.”  Each Easter our family will take a walk outside or even sit in the back yard and talk about Easter.  As we take a walk we can look for something small that would fit in our Easter Jar.  This object needs to remind us of Jesus Christ.

Such as:  A rock – Jesus is our foundation

A white stone – the stone rolled in front of Christ’s tomb

A twisted twig – crown of thorns

A beautiful flower – Christ’s resurrection

A piece of wood – the cross

Any item from nature – as Jesus created our beautiful Earth

When your walk is over sit as a family and share your thoughts of Easter and Jesus Christ.

Included in the jar are markers so each object can be marked with the person’s initial.

Included with the jar is a small booklet to record a simple thought from each person about Jesus Christ or Easter.

On the front page of the booklet is this quote:

Nothing in the entire plan of salvation compares in any way in importance with the most transcendent of all events, the atoning sacrifice of our Lord.  It is the most important single thing that has ever occurred in the entire history of created things; it is the rock foundation upon which the gospel and all other things rest.”                   Bruce R. McConkie

This year we are planning to take our first “Easter Walk” around the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saint’s Temple.  What a great place to sit and think and share our gratitude for our Savior.  I have included a small, laminated picture of the Temple in each jar to start our collection.
