Dried Up Marshmallow Games

January 21st, 2011 in Friday: Play!, Crafts

When cleaning out drawers I found three bags of dried up marshmallows. I don’t know why I even buy them…I must buy them for decorating cupcakes and completely forget about them. So since it was, you know, SNOWING again this week we stayed in and thought up things to do with the dried up marshmallows.

#1 Spelling Game: Write letters on both sides of the marshmallow. I added a lot of extra A’s, T’s, G’s, D’s, I’s, E’s and O’s so we could spell a lot of SIMPLE words. Abby is just starting to learn to read so we are in the baby steps of reading words like PIG, CAT or DOG. I let her pick 7 marshmallows out of the bowl and make as many words as she could. Then she picked another 7.

#2 Finding Colors: You could make two bowls with this game and let the kids race each other. We just “timed” each of them to see who would win. We colored 6 of the mini marshmallows and hid them in a huge bowl full of white marshmallows. Then we raced the clock to find the colored ones!

Goodness..sometimes I feel like I am grasping at straws to find things to do. How many more days until it’s warm?
