Berry Crisp & Berry Picking

September 14th, 2010 in Raising Kids on Read Food, cooking

My sister, Rebecca, asked me if I would like to go berry picking last week. YES! I have a kid that has been addicted to berries since her first taste at the age of one. OBSESSED, I tell you, and the rest of us love berries too.  Plus, I have been so tired and I would not have gone without someone asking me so I was glad we did. Even if our girls were a bit whiney and having issues with peeing in the portable frog toliet, it was still worth it!

Blackberries and raspberries! Sure, the raspberries were covered in yellow jackets….and the blackberries in flies. But now my girls know where the berries come from and the WORK that it takes to pick them. Boy, I am just glad no one got stung!

Best Berry Crisp Ever.  I didn’t even get a finished picture because it was eaten up so fast. But let me share with you my favorite crisp recipe.  It is just the one from the good old Red and White Betty Crocker Cookbook. Although, I double the crisp part because I really, really like the crisp.

Berry Crisp

4 cups of berries, placed in a pan and sprinkled with some sugar

1 cup of rolled oats

1 cup of brown sugar

1/2 cup of flour

1 tsp of cinnamon

1 stick of butter

Mix all these ingredients together until crumbly and place on top of fruit that was sprinkled with sugar.

Cook for 30-40 minutes on 375 until nice and crispy.

Then you must eat it with vanilla bean ice cream…you just must!

Such a yummy recipe and experience for…
