Art Lesson: Pastels & Landscapes

February 17th, 2010 in Crafts

It’s been a while since I have posted an Art Lesson, but we still do them! Sometimes I have my camera sitting around.  Sometimes it’s out in my car. And you guys know, in the wintertime it’s a long trip to get something from the car.  It just doesn’t happen…

The other day we were looking at landscape pastel drawings, reading about how artists do them and artists that are famous for them. I decided it was time to pick up some pastels!

To make a pastel drawing with your kids, this is all you need:

Ask your kids to try the cover the whole paper with color, so use a smaller piece than normal.

Like so…

Then you can blend the pastels using one of these two easy methods:

Then you simply spray your drawing with hairspray to prevent any further smudging/blending.

Your kids are never too young to start having fun with art and learning all the different ways it can be created!

You did NOT just use Bumble & Bumble hairspray on those drawings. If you’re going to use hairspray, go for the cheap stuff like Aquanet! Don’t waste the B&B! LOL
